IEEE Electric Ship Technologies Symposium
*Extended deadline for paper submissions* April 5, 2023
Sponsored by: IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) and IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS)
Technical Sponsor: IEEE Transportation Electrification Community (TEC)
The ESTS 2023 Technical Program Committee solicits paper submissions on a range of technical topics that relate broadly to the development and implementation of electric ship platforms. Naval platforms of interest to ESTS range from ships with traditional electric power distribution through fully electrified vessels. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following as applied to electric ships and vessels:
Model-based Systems Engineering | Ship and System Level Models | Subsystem and Component Models |
Digital Twin Development | Modeling Tool Development | Wide Bandgap Device Applications |
Electric Propulsion and Generation | Power Conversion Topologies | Control Architectures and Methods |
Energy Storage Systems | Fuel cells and Integration | Pulsating Loads and System Impact |
Superconducting Devices & Systems | Dielectric Considerations | Wireless Charging at MW Scale |
Electromagnetic Interference | Electromagnetic Compatibility | Charging and Charging Infrastructures |
Common-mode Behavior | DC Power Distribution | Medium Freq. AC Power Distribution |
Cabling Considerations | Protection for AC and DC Systems | Advanced Magnetics |
Autonomous Vessel Design | Cyber-Physical System Considerations | Robust Communications Systems |
Cold-Ironing and Shore Power | Battery-Electric Ship Implementations | Decarbonization & Carbon Capture |
Emission Control Systems | Cooling Systems & Thermal Solutions | Renewable Generation Sources |
ESTS 2023 invites commercial, recreational, and military ship end-users, shipbuilders, port operators, classification societies, machinery and equipment manufacturers, research institutes, universities and other organizations around the world to present their views, opinions, studies, research, designs and future advances on these subjects. Panel sessions and poster presentations will be held for these topics.
Submission of Papers
Those wishing to present contributions are invited to submit complete papers to the ESTS 2023 Technical Committee. Authors are encouraged to limit content to 8 pages in final format; papers with more than 10 pages in final format will not be accepted. Submissions must include paper title, name(s) of principal author(s) and organization(s) including city, country, and email address. A template to assist authors in manuscript preparation is also available on the IEEE Power and Energy Society website. Please note that full papers are required at the time of initial submission.
Journal Special Issue
The ESTS 2023 Technical Program Committee (TPC) is currently discussing the organization of a special issue on electric ships with the editorial staff of an IEEE journal. The proposed special issue will be made up of extended manuscripts based on papers that are accepted to ESTS 2023. Authors are encouraged to make plans to participate in the formation of this special issue through the extension of papers submitted to ESTS 2023. Additional details will be communicated to authors by the TPC as they become available.
Public Disclosure
All papers and presentations contributed by authors must be approved for public disclosure prior to submission. Please note that the technical committee cannot accept restricted distribution submissions for consideration.
Acceptance of Papers
The authors of accepted papers will be requested to submit final manuscripts for inclusion in the Proceedings by the deadline below. Accepted papers must adhere to IEEE formatting guidelines, and must be presented at the conference in order be included in IEEE Xplore. Please note that the final manuscript submission is intended to provide authors with the opportunity to address minor and/or cosmetic errors in the original manuscript and to ensure PDF eXpress compliance; authors are strongly discouraged from making material changes to the manuscript after the initial submission.
Deadlines
*New date* April 5, 2023 | Initial paper submission |
May 19, 2023 | Notification of acceptance or rejection |
June 2, 2023 | Final paper submission |
Travel Restrictions Due to COVID-19
The organizing committee of ESTS2023 is committed to having a safe, in-person conference. However, in the event of last-minute travel restrictions or emergencies ahead of the scheduled meeting, alternative methods to present accepted technical papers may be made on a case-by-case basis.
